Formed Cancer Patient And Sick And Tired Of Feeling "shitty" And Don't Know What I Need.?

396545116 Right now I am on 100 mgs of tramadol for an extra boost of energy and so I don't feel so tired and worthless since its hard to walk and shit like that. The tramadol isn't cutting it anymore and its plugging me up so I go bathroom like twice a week. I have a shunt in my head and am a former brain cancer patient. I just finished chemo a year ago and I used to take all kinds of pain meds and to be honest with you, most narcotics are the only thing that relieves my pain, calms my anxiety, and takes my depression away because of my handicaps physically. I decided suicide is not the thing to do, and anti-depressants don't seem to help. So am I qualified to use narcotic type pain releivers or what should I do. Every pain I have scares the hell out of me so maybe its anxiety. And also I feel overwhelmed. Help!

  3. Tiny - Sam, I am sorry to hear about your post cancer pain. I am a HUGE proponent of using narcotic pain medication and managing your pain adequately. Get rid of the Tramadol if it is not working, If narcotic pain pills are working then do not worry about needing to be dependent on them. This is only your business and is only for you and your doctor to have an opinion about. At this point you may want to explore methadone as a strong opiate pain med then use the oxyIR or hyrdomorphone and other shorter acting drugs for breakthrough pain. These opiate meds also DO work on your psyche and can put you in a better place emotionally due to the decreasing of your pain. No one but you understands your pain and has ANY right to make comment on your selected use of treatments. The other benefit of using the cheaper old fashioned opioid based pain meds is they have no proven long term side affects aside from occasional minor heart rhythm disturbances and constipation. The other SSRI based perception altering drugs all can have terrible long lasting harmful and toxic adverse reactions and side affects. Sam just relax and make an appointment to meet with your doctor and speak openly and candidly about all of the pros and cons of using all types of pain treatments. This blunt and open communication will pay off as it will establish trust and insure that your physician respects your input and doesn't treat you like a junkie. I hope you get the treatment you need.
    Best Wishes

  4. april - You DO know tramadol is a narcotic-like pain reliever right?? It doesn't plug you up. It doesn't perk you up. It doesn't give you a boost of energy either...You need some prozac.
