Ok I Am A Diabetic And After Colon Infection Lost 62 Pounds Without Trying. Now I Keep Seeing?
diabetics lose weight. but, why after 20 years of being fat am i losing so much weight so fast? has this happened to anyone else and feel me in on it. getting a colonoscopy soon. why do you lose weight with diabetics?
C.M. C - Theresa, this question is very touchy, and it would be unwise and irresponsible of me to say something that would be totally wrong and worry you. I would be consulting your doctor with this question quick smart.
Nikola Bozilovic - Maybe just too many primate insulin, it can lead to weight loss as well as my case.Ali may be some other disease, you specify whether primate insulin to much!.If the answer yes then you are losing weight than insulin, if the answer is not that is some other disease?
Bridgette - I would say keep your colonoscopy appointment, but I would also consult the physician you see for your diabetes. Controlling your insulin levels with diabetes is very important! I am not a physician, but from my understanding, if you are gaining weight with diabetes, you are not getting enough insulin. If you are losing too much weight, you could be getting too much insulin. It is important to control your insulin. Diabetes can affect many important things in your body, such as kidneys, heart, circulation, etc.
arnie g - Just a heads up,you may not want them to give you a drug called Versed
In fact, many people who use Versed for "conscious sedation" during a procedure are awake for the entire procedure but remember nothing, often believing they were "out" the whole time.
Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is commonly administered in combination with anesthesia before and during surgery. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like colonoscopies dental procedures like extractions, conscience sedation, twilight sleep, so that patients won't remember pain and discomfort.HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE SENSATIONS WILL NOT BE EXPERIENCED!!!!Forgetting does no mean it did not happen!!
John W - Diabetes is when your pancreas either can not or does not produce enough insulin or the insulin is just not effective. Well what does insulin do, it allows glucose to enter the cells whereby it can be used for energy or converted into glycogen and glycerides for storage as happens mostly in the liver. Without insulin, your cells don't get the energy it needs and must burn fats and proteins for energy. Hence if you have a shortage of insulin, you are effectively on a forced Atkins diet but at a high cost in long term effects due to high glucose and possible short term fatal effects from ketoacidosis ( which is a risk of the Atkins diet as well ).
Diabetics lose weight because their cells are starving to death.
Type 2 diabetics still produce insulin, often more than enough for their cells basic needs and they may have resistance to insulin from the fat cells that they have.
Weight loss is a primary symptom of diabetes but only occurs if the insulin production has dropped below a certain point. A lot of people believe that injecting insulin will cause a weight gain, this is because the diabetic has become accustomed to eating more than they should because of their weight loss such that when enough insulin is injected for what they do eat, they gain weight, it's not a fault of the insulin alone, it's just that they're eating more than they should to begin with.
Your colon is obviously part of your digestive tract and any problems there will affect the absorbtion of nutrients from your food so colon problems in themselves can cause weight loss never mind diabetes. Best to talk to your Doctor about the likely effects of the colonoscopy and of not doing the colonoscopy.
Vera Gabriele - Theresa I don't have the qualified answers. I only want to tell you that my uncle who is 6 ft tall and weighed 200 lbs had a colon problem and within a very short time he lost a drastic amount of weight...he lost 40 pounds. I don't know what kind of diabetes you suffer from whether it's diabetes type 1 then you need insulin for the rest of your life or whether you suffer from diabetes type 2 because you were heavily overweight then your diabetes is reversible...if you lose weight. That only applies to diabetes type 2 and a lot of overweight people suffer from health related problems due to their weight...but on the biggest loser many who lost weight managed to become diabetes type 2 free and no longer needed insulin. x
