My friends dad has been sick and needs blood. I would love to help them but I'm just not sure what blood type I am. If you can help me find out what I have to do so I could know that wold be amazing.
Lynn Bodoni - You don't need to be the same type to donate! What will happen is that if you donate, and tell the people at the blood center that you're donating for your friend's dad, they will credit his account with one unit of blood. It might not be YOUR particular blood that he gets, but he will have that credit.
It's a very nice thing to do for him and your friend. They say that the best gifts are what you make yourself, and from the heart, so this is one of the best gifts you can give.
My little sister died of leukemia over 50 years ago. When I could donate blood (I can't do it any more), I usually designated half of the credit to go to my own account (in case I needed it), and then I'd pick a little girl who had leukemia and donated to her account. This was my way of honoring my little sister's memory. A local restaurant had a promotion for a particular little girl, with a blood mobile taking blood, and I got to meet one of my recipients. Her mother was VERY grateful, because this little girl needed a lot of blood, and the cost of units was pretty high.
Recipients usually have to pay a processing fee for each unit that's donated, because each unit has to be tested and they have to pay staff. But they have to pay a much higher fee for blood that isn't donated to their account. So in addition to showing your friendship, you are saving your friend's dad a lot of money. Also, the blood center will type your blood, and will tell you what type you are.
Nana Lamb - So go to the blood bank and donate anyway!! They will type and cross match your blood and let you know what your blood type is.
But even if you don't help your friend's dad right now, there are others out there who can, and in turn you can help others by donating and you will feel great for doing something!
Lisa A - They will tell when you go to give blood. It's one of the 1st things they check. Just ask.
ReplyDeleteKelly - blood test - hope he gets better soon and good luck
