maria - Some people may have Diabetes Mellitus for many years before they are diagnosed because symptom of this disease is unobvious at the beginning especially for Type 2 Diabetes. Once the symptoms begin to develop, they vary but the most common two are increased thirst and frequent urination. Because high blood sugar will absorb more water into your blood from the tissues, you will feel dehydrated and always want to drink a lot of water, which will then lead to frequent urination.
Other warning signs of Diabetes:
Weight gain or weight loss. Poor vision. Increased fatigue. The above is an introduction of the common symptoms of Diabetes Mellitus. So when you have any of these symptoms, take care of yourself and don’t be absent of mind.
John W - The primary ones to look for is urination, thirst and weight loss. Also look for changes in vision, usually fuzzy vision after meals etc.
Type 1 diabetics, tend to have a sudden onset that pretty much sends them to hospital within hours but some type 1's can be latent and drag out for years. Most type 2's drag out for years maybe decades before detected and many type 2's spend years in denial thinking they're not really diabetic or some miracle diet would save them, but some type 2's such as mine comes on quickly, I was hospitalized in a single afternoon with glucose levels in the high 700's mg/dl when we had just reviewed an A1C of just 5.5% just that very morning.
For me, it was intense unquenchable thirst, and abdominal pains.
Ben Trolled - The symptoms of diabetes may begin gradually and can be hard to identify at first. They may include fatigue, a sick feeling, frequent urination, especially at night, and excessive thirst. When there is extra glucose in blood, one way the body gets rid of itT is through frequent urination. This loss of fluids causes extreme thirst. Other symptoms may include sudden weight loss, blurred vision, and slow healing of skin, gum and urinary tract infections. Women may notice genital itching. A doctor also may suspect a patient has diabetes if the person has health problems related to diabetes. For instance, heart disease, changes in vision, numbness in the feet and legs or sores that are slow to heal, may prompt a doctor to check for diabetes. These symptoms do not mean a person has diabetes, but anyone who has these problems should see a doctor. This page lists the symptoms of diabetes when it first develops.
The classic symptoms of diabetes are: frequent urination, with large volumes of urine (polyuria), excessive thirst (polydipsia), hunger (polyphagia), and weight loss. Other symptoms might include: fatigue, blurry vision, odd aches and pains, dry mouth, dry or itchy skin, impotence (in a male), vaginal yeast infections (in a female), poor healing of cuts and scrapes, or excessive or unusual infections. Not everybody will have every one of these symptoms. Indeed, some people may have no symptoms at all! You can take the Diabetes Risk Test to help tell if you have diabetes and not know it. If you have these symptoms, then you'll need testing of your blood sugar levels. Further information about testing for diabetes may be found at Testing for Diabete
