What Are The Benefits Of A Pre-dental Degree?

396545381 I intend to be a Dentist. It's my dream job and the job im willing to fight for, although one can never know if he is good enough to be accepted into Dental School or not. Im wondering, what is the benfit of a Pre-Dental degree over a regular Biology Degree? My intention is to become a dentist, but i would rather get a Biology Degree so that just in case i dont get accepted into Dental School ill have a degree that will still benefit. But than again, im not sure if that is wise for Pre-Dental may have its benefits. So, what are those benefits and should i take a Pre-dental degree or a Biology degree?

  1. Jasmine - I would get the biology degree. A pre-dental degree doesn't give you training so its not like it will qualify you to be a dental assistant or anything. Plus, like you said if you don't get into dental school or you change your mind, biology is a good degree to fall back on for jobs. Most colleges don't offer a pre-dental major anyway, so a dental school is not going to like you more just because you majored in that. Plus, it might limit you to courses that you take and any biology course you take is relevant to dentistry. Good luck!
