Wisdom Teeth Question?

396545381 I'm getting them out Friday, and I'm a little nervous about being put to sleep!
When I wake up am I going to be spurting out nonsense? I don't want to say anything
inappropriate in front of my parents! And to make it worse, the operation is on Friday the 13th!
(not that I'm superstitious or anything)
And I don't know why I'm getting them out really but they say it will cause problems later on since I already have had braces! ~
And I have no idea what sedation they are using!
I just know that it's going to be done via an injection, they said they were giving me laughing gas for the injection but idk why because it seems like it's just an IV, why would you need laughing gas for an IV? $$$?

  2. arnie g - Just a heads up,you may not want them to give you a drug called Versed

In fact, many people who use Versed for "conscious sedation" during a procedure are awake for the entire procedure but remember nothing, often believing they were "out" the whole time.

Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is commonly administered in combination with anesthesia before and during surgery. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like colonoscopies dental procedures like extractions, conscience sedation, twilight sleep, so that patients won't remember pain and discomfort.HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE SENSATIONS WILL NOT BE EXPERIENCED!!!!Forgetting does no mean it did not happen!! Amnesia does NOT take place for some patients.

IT'S NOT MY INTENTION FOR YOU TO NOT GET THE PROCEDURE DONE, JUST INFORMING YOU THAT YOU MAY WANT IT DONE WITH ANOTHER DRUG!!!!!

  3. Buffaloooo - not everybody that gets put to sleep says stupid things.
I've never got put to sleep when I got mine removed, but my brother did.
When he woke up, he kept repeating, "I'm soooooo hungry", "mommy, when are we going home?" (i thought that was funny because he's 24 and said "mommy" :P) and then the rest of the car ride home he was asleep.
so i dont think you have anything to worry about, and even if you do spurt out nonsense, i'm sure you're parents will think it's funny.

  4. Faith - I had mine out almost three weeks ago. I was absolutely terrified. As in, I lost sleep over the thought of my surgery.

But anyways, I got all four of mine out. They put me to sleep for it and when I woke up I didn'tsay anything stupid at all. I had braces and if you keep the wisdom teeth in, it can make your other teeth shift.

  5. Carolyn - I just had the surgery yesterday. Same IV and everything. When I woke up I was just really really tired. I doubt you'll be saying crazy stuff. When you wake up you will have gauze in your mouth so you won't be able to say much anyway. :) My mom told me all I was able to do was answer 'yes and no' questions right after the surgery. You will be a tad disoriented but for the most part you'll be awake enough to know what you are saying. I only don't remember the first 15 mins after the surgery, and everything else was easy to remember.

You'll be just fine. :) Believe me I was nervous too but everything turned out just fine. You'll be ok too. If you have any questions you can send me a message and I'd be happy to let you know about everything. :)
