Infected Hand Need Some Help With Questions?

396545389 part of my hand has gotten infected i visited my family doc he gave me some sort of medication it did not work what so ever not even a bit the pain from the itching is there and its getting worse some. its spreading i put alcohol swipes on some times but nothing happens but i stopped has this ever happened to any one of you if so can you put up some advice.
its a scab i tried to soak it in water than put the swipes on but it started to smell than i stopped i might try it again i will see the docs soon

  1. Maverick - Does it have a red ring in the middle? If so then this is more than likely a brown recluse spider bite. If so you need to get to the doctor before the skin starts rotting away. It will itch swell and puss up then get much worse from there

  2. formerly_bob - An infection that itches might be shingles (same virus that causes chicken pox) or a strep infection. Medication doesn't help with shingles - it just has to run its course. Strep should respond to alcohol, but it only works on bacteria that come into direct contact with the alcohol. If the infection forms a crust or scab, the alcohol won't reach the bacteria underneath. If the infection is crusty, you need to soak it in soapy water and try to dissolve the crust or scab before applying an antiseptic or antibiotic. Povidone iodine is better than alcohol. It might be a good idea to go back to the doc. If the infection is strep, you might have the type that is resistant to antibiotics, and if so, its important to get it under control as soon as possible.
