I'm 21 years old, and for the past few nights, I've noticed that I've been drinking more water in the evening and before bed time. Nothing TOO extreme, but probably about 3 or so glasses from around 6pm-10pm. I've only noticed this the past few days. I feel like I drink enough water during the day. I have noticed that I haven't been breaking a sweat as much during my workouts (at least 30-40min on the stationary bike at a moderate pace), but I've also been wearing shorts and tank tops and I live in New England, so it hasn't exactly been warm in my house this week. I DO break a sweat, just not as much as usual.
My dad is diabetic (Type II) and it runs in our family, but I test my blood on a somewhat regular basis and I have never had a problem. Today, I was having some stomach pains (in the right side of my abdomen), and I called my doctor to explain my symptoms. He did not seem concerned, but just in case, I went to get an ultrasound. My appendix, right ovary, uterus, right kidney, and gallbladder were all normal.
I should point out that this is not super excessive thirst. I am thirsty, yes, but sometimes I know I'll probably have to get up in the middle of the night to pee if I drink water late at night, so I just ignore the sensation. I've also been tired lately (but I'm PMSing -- I'm due for my period January 4th), and I do have IBS. I take Citrucel to help with the constipation (I just started this last week) and I notice that when I take it, I have to urinate 2-3 times throughout the morning (during a short time span), but I also take this with a very large glass of water (I'd say at least 12-16oz). I have hyperthyroidism and I take two pills per day.
Obviously, if this does not get any better by Monday, I'll mention it to a doctor of mine, but it's not like I'm waking up out of a deep sleep to get water. I'm not. It's just annoying, more than anything. Should I be concerned? I'm in very good shape and I eat well, and I'm otherwise healthy. My dad has always been insanely healthy as well, and he did not get diagnosed with diabetes until he was in his 40s (he's 56 now).
So, should I worry? Or could this maybe be due to my thyroid, PMS, relatively new Citrucel treatment, etc.?
Dionny Ong - Hi Emily,
ReplyDeleteMy opinion, it's related with your thyroid. Thyroid hormones stimulate diverse metabolic activities, in other ways your metabolic rate will increase. So that explains why you drink water more often.
You're fine and health as long as you don't faint and feel dizzy. Anyway your blood test that have good results, so you need not to fear about getting diabetes.
Try to put some cinnamon to maintain your blood sugar level. It works for diabetic as well. Eat fruits and vegetables.
Hope my answer is useful and get well soon! :)
tod m - kidney problems from diabetes. Avoid sugar, soda, candy, cookies, etc. get tested.
