  1. raj - Yes, these sympoms are commoner is Diabetes, but they are not found only in diabetes. There may be other causes, investigate them.I think you are health concious, sometimes worrying or psychological stress can mimic symptoms, whatever they are.

You want to avoid diabetes?? Reduce your weight-this is the single most help you can get. Do exercise, do exercise and do exercise. Among others avoid high blood pressure. Don't forget for lipid profile.

Now one random blood sugar proves nothing, in your case it's normal. If you want to be sure, then
fasting blood sugar (after overnight fast not even tea) should be less than 125 mg/100 ml.
And/or post-prandial (after eating a meal or 75 gm glucose-called Glucose tolerance test) it should be less than 200 mg/100 ml.

It's prefererred that tests come consecutively two times positive, so as to rule out glitches. You can go for differant labs also.
Glucose tolerance test is the gold standard.

An expensive but quite reliable test is HbA1ac- it should be below 7%.

You can go for these tests, after consulting a doctor anytime. There's no defined time period to get tested, esp when you are worrying.

Reduce your fat, esp tummy fat, it's of enormous help almost divine. Do tell the doctor medications you are taking as they may interfere with blood glucose.

  2. John W - You really don't need to test again unless you have a reason to do so. During a full physical, your Doctor will draw some blood and do a H1A1C test which gives an average of your blood glucose level for 30 to 40 days ( it tests the red blood cells which live for 100-120 days but since blood cells are produced continuously, the blood cells in the sample has an average life span of 30 to 40 days, it's only the mathematically impaired that says the test is for a 90 day average ). If diabetes begins to develop, it should be noticeable on the H1A1C and a more detailed test scheduled.

Tingling in the legs if from diabetes would be neuropathy and would only be the result of poorly controlled glucose for years if not decades. It would not be an early indicator of diabetes so the tingling that you feel is almost surely not diabetes unless decades have passed since that test a month ago.. Burning while urinating is more likely an UTI or a STD.

The most likely early indicators of diabetes are urination, extreme thirst and weight loss.

Neither the tingling in your legs nor the burning sensation while urinating should make you suspect diabetes but you should go to a Doctor to figure out what they may be from.

  3. Nana Lamb - a finger pricking is like a snapshot in time!! like you were smiling and very happy yesterday! it means absolutely nothing for diagnosis of diabetes.

You need to have a blood draw for HbA1c. Just for that test you need NOT fast, but doctors like to have other panels of information so tell you to fast for them. Lipids or cholesterol, liver function, lots of other things they can learn from blood testing.

I can have my random blood sugar in the 98 mg/dL range mid afternoon every darned day! But it is the other times like fasting, after a meal, bedtime that the numbers are much much higher!!

Quit worrying and make an appointment for blood panels draw!!! then you will know! And if your are serious you may need to get testing done every 6 months to a year. But blood draw! NOT finger pricking!
