So on all four, theres like a flap of gum over it that I can move with my tongue.. gross i know.
For the past 2 months or so, my right lower wisdom tooth has started having this foul odor/smell and it tastes gross. It goes away when I brush, and use mouthwash, but no matter how much I brush and clean, the odor comes back.
However, my wisdom teeth are growing straight, but kind have stopped growing and are staying partially erupted.
Should I be getting them extracted?
The wisdom teeth are growing straight, and with the year that its been growing, it hasn't affected my teeth either, my teeth are still straight..
My problem is that it is just partially erupted. So I have like this gum flap on one side, (like a hole)
and part of the tooth grown out already
BPHOR - yea you should, its not a good idea to keep them
ReplyDeleteMisspompom - Obviously, it does not hurt but you are concious about it.
ReplyDeleteSo you should do something about it, really.
I'm getting mine removed next week.
Dustin - They are impacted. I have the same thing.
ReplyDeletetall_alien - There is a lot of controversy about the benefits / disadvantages of getting them removed (see wikipedia for that), depending on your age, the country you are in etc. your dentist will be more or less likely to advise one or the other. Still going to a dentist and getting his opinion is probably your best bet.

Hample - When I was at the denstist one day for an appointment I asked about my wisdom teeth. The hygenist, who is pretty sharp when it comes to answering questions like these said that some people get their wisdome teeth and others don't. She said that some people keep their wisdom teeeth instead of getting them extracted, even though they shouldn't because they are hard to take care of. My suggestion would be to make an appointment with your dentist to see if they will need extracted or not. If they have been errupted for a year or so already I'm sure they have already caused your teeth to move around and become more crooked. Plus they will probably cause you more pain than the extraction would. My uncle is my dentist and he said the same thing about wisdom teeth. My sister is a pre-med major and she said the same thing.
ReplyDeleteSnow White - get them extracted. a little bit of pain for a lifetime of gain :)
ReplyDelete? - The foul taste and odor is because food is getting inside the flap of gum over your teeth and is a breeding ground for bacteria, causing something called pericoronitis. Most wisdom teeth that are impacted are extracted but if you are able to maintain your wisdom teeth in a healthy condition and don't have any associated problems, there is no need to have them extracted. As far as the foul smell and taste are concerned, you could have the flap of gum excised(its called operculectomy). That would solve the problem. However it is very common for such flaps to grow back.
ReplyDeleteJak - No. You shouldn't remove your wisdom teeth unless they cause you pain.
ReplyDeletearnie g - If you decide to get them removed
ReplyDeleteJust a heads up,you may not want them to give you a drug called Versed
In fact, many people who use Versed for "conscious sedation" during a procedure are awake for the entire procedure but remember nothing, often believing they were "out" the whole time.
Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is commonly administered in combination with anesthesia before and during surgery. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like colonoscopies dental procedures like extractions, conscience sedation, twilight sleep, so that patients won't remember pain and discomfort.HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE SENSATIONS WILL NOT BE EXPERIENCED!!!!Forgetting does no mean it did not happen!! Amnesia does NOT take place for some patients. Patients recall a bad experience!
