Why Am I Waking Up Congested?

396545383 Okay, so I sometimes get congested in the middle of the day, so I carry around some nose spray and use that. It usually happens around 12 P.M., but when I wake up (about 8 A.M.) I'm congested, and I find that I've been breathing out of my mouth. This happens EVERY morning, and if I wake up earlier like at 5 or so, I'm still congested, even though I use nose spray before I go to bed, so I use noses pray then.
Why do I wake up congested?
We have 7 cats (yes, we really have 7 cats), and I might be a little allergic to them, but they don't sleep on my bed. Also, I have 3 stuffed animals, and I sleep with one of them each night, maybe they're what's making me stuffed up?

  1. Yesy Rodriguez - i used to have the same problems for years then noticed that the room i would sleep at would be a good chill temperature that i/my body would be confertable with but i guess was too cold to breath in while asleep...so check the temperature of ur room...n maybe the cats also play part in it since u said u r allergic to them...good luck!!!!

  2. BenM666 - You have to be careful of using too much nasal decongestant (nose spray) it can lead to you having all of the symptoms of what you were using the nose spray to get over in the first place. It's called Rebound Nasal Congestion, where you basically get congested because the spray works by constricting blood vessels.

If you are allergic to pets or dust (as I am) I would recommend a good daily anti-histamine like Loratadine or Cetirizine. If your old enough and allergic enough to switch to the big guns then try Promethazine hydrochloride (but only before bed as it makes you *super* drowsy).

    I hope this helps!
