Is Dental Irrigation After Cleaning Necessary?

396545381 my dentist recommends irrigation after a deep cleaning.

  1. Fat Ugly and Stupid - I think it's a good idea after a deep cleaning, or root planing. It augments the mechanical removal of subgingival plaque, chemically.

I generally use chlorhexidine, as it has a good antimicrobial activity, and doesn't change the normal oral flora (that would encourage the growth of thrush, for example).

So, while it might always not be an absolute necessity all of the time, I feel it's better to err on the side of the patient's well-being.

    **Hope this helped!

  2. Justin Kery - Root canal procedure involves the removal of the crown of the tooth, removal of the infected tissue which is then properly cleaned and replaced inside the tooth cavity. The procedure is completed by attaching a new crown on the tooth. Given the complicacy involved in the process, root canal therapy often demands more than one visit. Besides being expensive and time consuming, the process is also quite painful due to it is usually performed under a mild anaesthesia administered locally to lessen the pain.
