ReplyDeleteCurtis - First start a training regiment. Which includes upper body, core, lower body, cardio, and mental training. Now the order of importance with these to me would begin with cardio and core. Then begin with upper body and lower body at the same time. Being strong is just as much a mental thing as it is physical because you need to believe in yourself and without a positive attitude you won't succeed. But know you already have taken the first step with just asking for help.
ReplyDeleteCW - First of all,
ReplyDeleteYou must eat right to ensure your body has the essential nutrients you need to have a strong body, with little fat. Eat fresh vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and plenty of fruit. Only drink water (A LOT), tea, milk, and real fruit juice. NO SODAS. Also, be sure to keep your body free from foreign substances like nicotine, and drugs....You can have alcohol but do not have more then, say a glass a day. You must keep with these ground rules to ensure your body will be strong.
Next, get into weight training. Start lifting very low weight and concentrate on proper lifting form. If your form is bad, you will not have proper muscle growth. As you start to learn proper form, then start adding the weight. Try to go up aleast five pounds a week. This will ensure you build muscle mass. Once you build appropriate muscle mass and do not want to get any larger, keep the weight at a constant level and lift until you experience muscle fatigue. This will increase you muscular endurance (a.k.a. you will be stronger).
Then, start cardio and abdominal training. Cardio will trim off the extra fat and tone your body. You can do this by going to a track and doing sprintintervalss, running on a treadmill, doing stair climbers, riding a bike, or doing an eliptical. Try to do cardio atleast for 30 minutes 4 days a week. Abdominal training will give you a solid core.Do body planks, obliques, crunches, and sit-ups. You can also try the abdominal machines they have at your local gym. As stated earlier, this will strenghten you core and make you stronger and make you a better runner. Ab workouts are an all around great workout to build strength.
Lastly, get into sports or martial arts. Doing sports or martial arts will improve your agility and help with hand-eye coordination. In the event of self defense these will help you. They also can count as a cardio exercise and who knows, maybe they will turn into your passion :)
In conclusion:
-Eat right
-Do weight training (body building.com gives you a free workout routine to start)
-Do cardio and abdominal training
-Do sports or martial arts
All these together will make you an all around stronger person...phsically and mentally.
All your progress depends entirely on you. Keep motivated and dedicated and pretty soon, you will be strong.
And please be patient, strength doesn't come over night. :)
