Do Baby Teeth Have Roots When They Are Pulled Out?

396545381 my 7 years old boy had his baby tooth pulled out yesterday by a dentist and it came out with the root and he bled alot. is that normal? and if yes, why do they always say that baby teeth don't have roots? will this affect his adult tooth in any way?

  1. Lorelei C - Some baby teeth have roots. Anything in the mouth bleeds a lot. That is very normal. It will not affect his adult teeth but if the dentist had not pulled it, it could have affected the adult teeth. I did not loose any baby teeth until I was 10. Strange genes.

  2. Richard Lee DDS - Sometimes. If the adult tooth does not follow the baby tooth in exactly the right direction there will be some root left. Sometimes the baby tooth root will be completely intact if the adult tooth grows in a different direction. The way this will affect the adult teeth is if it causes crowding. Then it may require braces to correct the crowding.
    Hope that helps.

J - Baby teeth DO have roots, but as the adult teeth grown and start to come in, the roots of the baby teeth dissolve, and that's why they fall out because there is nothing to hold them tightly in the gums. If a baby tooth is extracted before it is supposed to fall out naturally, then the roots will still be there.
