What I read on google said it would dislodge it and that really freaked me out! When i get one(MRI/CT) it is of my head so that is why I was worried. If it was of another body part I would not be as worried.

James - Good news!
ReplyDeleteYou can have as many CTs as you'd like as it uses X-rays and that doesn't affect your dental implant at all. Or more likely not more than any other part of your body.
As of MRIs - most probably as dental implants are not magnetic. That means it could distort the MRI image if it scans near your mouth, but they will usually not cause any problems. However, even if you think your dental implant is compatible with the MRI machine, you must let the MRI personnel know in order to ensure that your dental implant is compatible! It's always good to check double before than to have a problem afterwards.
Good luck with your scans!

CT definitely doesn't affect your implant and you said you have MRI annually - because it is dependent from your dental implant material and their machine, you should follow up with the place where you take MRIs to find out if their machine is compatible with your implant material. In theory it should be possible to have an MRI, but you certainly want to be 100% sure about it before - and only they have the answer for that. Good luck!
Hawkeyesrule - No problems for CTs. For MRIs make sure to tell the doctor beforehand! Should be able to since it is made of the same stuff that artificial knees and hips are made from--titanium.
