I think this goes for orange flavoring as well, since I had orange-flavored chocolate (it was actually good despite how it sounds) and was allergic to that. Every time I drink orange juice I break out in hives all over my body. When I eat an orange I am fine. Why is this?

Cacille - Try an experiment. Purchase the follow things.

Three different types of orange juice. - one that is cheap that has chemicals (like Sunny D or something), one that claims to be pure orange juice but is commonly purchased, and one that is local to you or is claimed to be pure organic, no additives.
Some benedryl.
Step 1. Eat one orange. Observe if any hives appear for the next two hours. Even if you've done this before. Look for hives all over you (even under undies and such).
Step 2. Eat three-four oranges at once. Observe again for same amt of time. If you break out in hives, stop there and take the benedryl immediately. You've found your answer - it's quantity of juice that does it.
Step 3. Drink a large cup of the pure no additives type. Observe again as above. If you break out in hives, stop there and take the benedryl. You've found a hopeful answer. It may be the growing location of the oranges you might want to investigate.
Step 4. drink a large cup of the 100% common juice type. Observe again as above. If you break out in hives, stop there and take the benedryl. You've found a hopeful answer. It may be something in the PROCESS used to do the juicing that you're allergic to.
Step 5. drink a large cup of the chemical-ridden juice. Observe again as above. If you break out in hives, stop there and take the benedryl. You've found a hopeful answer. It's one of the chemicals in that particular juice you're allergic to. Use this scientific process to determine which chemical.
Whatever you do, wait a day between each test. Seriously.
John - well most people dont realize if orange juice was only oranges it would be called squeezed oranges. there is a lot of crap in orange juice that you could have reacted to. no store brand OJ is really that good for you anyways. my suggestion buy oranges and squeeze them its a lot more flavorful, maybe not as cost effective but thats because you pay for what you get
