  1. Texperson - Check around for a dentist that specializes in kids dentistry or one advertised as painless. They have ways and things available now that make the visit much less scary and more painless. They have mild gas they administer thru a face mask and you are oblivious.

You have to go, 15 years without a visit is crazy. You may have other dental issues and have to man up and go. It's really not that bad, just go.

  2. Rory - Relax. Don't worry the dentist knows what he is doing. When I had to get that done they put a small bit of numbing solution on my gums so the needle that numbs your whole mouth doesnt hurt. You'll be fine

  3. pokeykitty - I answered your first question and yes you can receive Nitrous Oxide before the procedure and it will help greatly with your anxiety. You have to ask for it because they won't just give it. Good luck

  4. Dave - You'll be fine. Some of the numbing gel they use can be applied with a q-tip rather than a needle. After that, you won't feel any pain. As someone else suggested, you can request nitrous gas (which is actually pretty fun). Most importantly, go for a cleaning every six months to prevent future cavities and serious dental work. Cleanings are easy and involve no needles. Best of all, they are usually done by one of the young, pretty dental technicians.

  5. arnie g - The numb it and just about no pain, nothing to worry about.

Just a heads up,you may not want them to give you a drug called Versed

In fact, many people who use Versed for "conscious sedation" during a procedure are awake for the entire procedure but remember nothing, often believing they were "out" the whole time.

Versed (Midazolam) is an amnestic. It is commonly administered in combination with anesthesia before and during surgery. It is also commonly used for minor procedures like colonoscopies dental procedures like extractions, conscience sedation, twilight sleep, so that patients won't remember pain and discomfort.HOWEVER THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THOSE SENSATIONS WILL NOT BE EXPERIENCED!!!!Forgetting does no mean it did not happen!! Amnesia does NOT take place for some patients.
