Heart Attack At 20 Years Of Age?

396545385 Last night I was eating spicy cuisine, when I suddenly had a very tight feeling in my chest along with tingling in my arm. I was already having heart burn before the feeling occurred, so I figured it was part of the heart burn or something else. Anyway, I wasn't too concerned and went to bed shortly after. Today I had a hard time waking up and ended up having to go back to sleep while someone babysat my daughter for a few hours. I felt a bit better after my nap, so I got up and started doing my usual housework. However, I've been having dull chest pains and trouble breathing all day. It eventually started to concern me so I starting doing research online, and eventually started reading about heart attacks.

Everything that happened to me sounds like a possible heart attack. I'm only 20 years old, and though not exactly active, you can't say I'm completely inactive.

I plan to set a doctors appointment this week, but should I be more concerned and possibly call the ER? Am I just being too paranoid?

  1. Mary Kontrarry - It's possible to have a heart attack at 20. Go to the ER.

  2. Grizzly Adams - Chest pain can mean a lot of different things. Anything from a MI to chest wall discomfort. It is not unheard of but def worth investigating. On a side note smoking synthetic marijuana can be linked to Heart Attacks. Something I learned the other day. Not suggesting you're doing that but interesting nonetheless. Just see the doc.

  4. John W - The only reasonable thing for any of us to say is to get it checked out at ER as there's no way for anybody on the Internet to know for sure nor is anyone necessarily qualified. But it would be rare for a 20 year old and often with people that age, it would be anxiety or some other cause, just look at how many Yahoo Answers questions are from teens and young adults concerned with their heart beats and heart attacks.

In my opinion, I think you had a bit too much to eat and may have had high glucose but even that should be checked out by a Doctor.

  5. Jim 06460389 - I totally agree that it IS VERY possible for a 20 year old to have a heart attack, and even have developed an issue that was N OT previously apparent growing up In your early 20th year we like to think we are mature in every way, but lets be honest, your still finishing up... YOU have had a child, and who knows potentially If that created a big issue out of a typically smaller one, I mean I know a couple of young mothers who suffered aortic dissections in Childbirth, that were caught and repaired on the spot.... etc. My point is don't blow anything off "because your only 20" eating spicy food Can affect you , but 1) was the meal something you never had before? or at a "new Place" I would suggest you go if it hasn't toned down , Go and have them do a couple tests and see .. better safe then Sorry...
