  1. johnsredgloves - My mom has glaucoma, and it's hereditary. There's a good chance that I may get it too. It's caused by a build up of pressure in the eye. If the pressure becomes too great, the optic nerve can be damaged. Blind spots in the eyes can occur. Once the blind spots appear, they cannot be reversed. If glaucoma goes untreated, permanent vision loss is the result. Sometimes this can lead to complete blindness. With early detection, eye drops can be prescribed to lower eye pressure and prevent vision loss. If the eye drops do not work, sometimes surgery can also be performed to reduce eye pressure.
