Kayla Carber - do they hurt----it depends on the person. mine hurt for maybe 3 days after i get them tightened. how long do they take----to get them on? it takes around 45 minutes. the length of time you have to wear your braces depends on each person. colors----red and blue(:
AskForum - 1. Does braces hurt? Yes, they do hurt for about a week. They don't hurt that much but you won't be able to talk much or open your jaws. You can't eat regular meals but some hot porridge or soup.
2. What color is the best? It depends on your choice of color. Your dentist has different colors and you get to pick from it there. You may also you some combinations of two colors. For example, it's Christmas time and you want to show your spirit by picking the brace colors green and red. (: You get to change colors once a month by the way. So enjoy!(:
Sunny94 - yeah, it hurts a lot...they will tell you there will be "slight discomfort"...don't listen it hurts so much. i could barely eat eggs. the only thing that helped was a lot of orajel and sleep, cuz when you're awake it doesn't feel good. but i didn't take medicine, like tylenol or anything like that. i've had mine for a year and a half, i should be getting them off in a few months. my friend's had them since 6th grade and we're in 11th grade now. i had blue most of the time. i noticed light colors, like red and orange don't look good, unless you're teeth are really really white...well good luck :)
rissa - I am too. My sis had them she says as long as you don't have sore gums. It will just sting a bit for a week. And the color if you have light skin light colors : yellow, light blue, light pink etc. dark. Skin darker colors, dark blue, dark teal, etc. hope that helps!
Llama Love! - I got braces a few months ago, and to tell you the truth, they're not great but manageable. When the orthodontist put the actual braces on, it does not hurt AT ALL. Not ONE BIT. After they "glue" the brackets on, they put a wire through it and tighten it. You will feel pressure, but not the pain kind. It's like someone is pushing down on your teeth, strong but not strong enough to feel pain. It's LATER that your mouth will be sore, for about 2-3 days. It didn't hurt much for me, but your pain tolerance might be different from mine so you can take a pain killer. After that it's like normal. Good luck with your braces! (:
By the way, since braces are literally metal in your mouth, they're going to scratch the inside of your lips a lot. I have 3 cuts in my mouth right now :( So make sure that you get orthodontic wax and good luck! :)
Edit: I don't know what you mean by how long it takes, but it takes about an hour to put the brackets on and tighten the wires and it depends on how bad your teeth are for how long you wear braces. And for the color...I personally like green. Or orange. :)
Nakajah Wilsonn - The honest answer is that braces do not hurt at all when they are applied to the teeth, so there is no reason to be anxious about the placement appointment. There will be mild soreness or discomfort after the orthodontic wire is engaged into the newly placed brackets, which may last for a few days to a week. Most patients experience some discomfort the first 4 days to a week after their braces, expanders, and/or wires are placed and after a wire adjustment and/or an activation appointment. Your lips and cheeks may need one to two weeks to get used to the braces on your teeth. All the appliances and wires that we use are cutting-edge, and exert very light, continuous, and biologically sound forces that greatly decrease any soreness associated with orthodontic treatment. But, some mild, and rarely moderate, discomfort is still to be expected. Each person will gradually adapt to the discomfort associated with the orthodontic tooth movement. Over the counter pain relievers (Advil/Motrin work well) normally taken for headaches plus rigorous regiment of salt water rinses can be used to greatly ease the discomfort.
Here is an overview of what you can expect when getting braces:
•Placement day – The placement of braces will not be painful in the slightest. In the first few hours after the braces are placed it may take longer to eat meals, but this is largely because it takes some time to adjust to wearing the braces and to learn to chew with them. In some cases, the teeth may feel more sensitive than usual. Hard, difficult to chew foods should be avoided in favor of a softer, more liquid-based diet (shakes, soups, yogurt, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, etc..) for the first few days after placement of braces. As the day progresses you may begin to feel slight discomfort as the teeth begin to move. •Two to three days after placement – The first several days after placement of braces can be a little uncomfortable. This is because the teeth are beginning the realignment process and are not used to the pressure of the archwire and elastic ties. We will provide and show you how to use relief wax/silicone to apply over the braces as necessary. Wax/silicone creates a smooth surface and alleviates irritation on the inner cheeks and lips. Additionally, over-the-counter pain medication (ibuprofen ie. Motrin and Advil usually works best if no allergies exisit) may be taken as directed in combination with a rigorous regiment of salt water rinses to relieve the soreness. •Five days after placement – After five days to a week, any initial discomfort associated with the braces should be gone or much improved. The teeth will have gradually acclimated to the braces, and eating should be much easier. Certain hard foods may still pose a challenge to the wearer, but normal eating may be resumed at this point. Make sure to avoid any foods considered to be brace breakers!
