Should My Dad Undergo Mri And Ct Scans?

396545116 My dad has prostate cancer stage 4 and currently in the lymph nodes with a psa of less then 1% and a gleason score of 7. He is on hormone treatment and never done an MRI or CT scans.

Is this weird ? Should he go for those just to see if the cancer has spread to the bones? My dad basically just relies on psa and gleason score and the advice of his doctors. Which by the way, are advising my dad to go see a chemo specialist next month and see if active surveillance or watchful waiting would be appropriate.

What do you think? thanks!

  1. Benjamin - Absolutely get an MRI an CT scan done, the more they know about what is happening the better they can treat the patient.

  2. Matt - Get a PET/CT scan. An MRI or CT only shows structure, the PET scan will show metabolic activity. Cancer cells are highly metabolic so they really show up on PET scans.
