I have a stress test in a week but I was wondering if the ppl that are their take into consideration if your overweight and have chronic asthma.or will they make you run rigorously during the test.
nurse52 - If this is the stress test where they take pictures they can give you a medicine that does the same as running. It is called persantine. If not they may make you run. Make sure they know that you have asthma. And if you really can't run tell your doctor.
gentle soul - There are many types of stress tests. the doctor who ordered it hopefully has your medical history. Regular stress, stress echo, dobutamine stress or persantine stress, these are a form of chemical stress test, but be sure to let them know of any allergies. then you can add a nuclear image portion to to the test. Ask questions and follow instructions.
John W - My first stress test was about a year after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure secondary to dilated cardiomyopathy, it took that long before my cardiologist felt I was good enough for the test. As he had seen me when I had an ejection fraction of 15%, he was really cautious about how much stress to put on me and didn't have me on the machine very long, yes I was running short on breath and my heart rate had gone up but it must've been the absolute bare minimum and wasn't hard at all. I've heard of people really being pushed to the extreme with a stress test and I'm certain that had the cardiologist not seen me at my worst, he would've. I'm now with a cardilogist in a different city whose only seen me during a decompensation down to 20% which though bad didn't feel nearly as bad as the 15% years ago so I suspect my next stress test may be a challenge. Don't know if being overweight and having asthma would warrant an easier test, I think perhaps not but heart failure seems to.
