*Shelbs* - Several of my friends have had them & they said they were sore for a few days after they got them. From watching them, they had to keep chap stick or vaseline on their lips because when their lips got dry their braces would catch on them & I remember when my friend's braces caught on the inside of her cheek for a second & it started bleeding a little. Apart from that & apart from the fact that your teeth may feel a little loose after they're taken off, it shouldn't be too bad :)
Hxnshd - Trust me, I got my first set of braces when I was 7 and had them on for four years. I got them on again in August. They will be sore the first week or so but then you'll get used to them. When they're actually putting them on it doesn't hurt anything but the inside of your cheeks and your lips because they use things to keep your mouth open. They won't hurt but if a bracket or wire is irritating the inside of your mouth you can put a little ball of wax on it and it won't hurt. The only other times it's sore/hurts is when you take your trips to the orthodontist where they take off the wire and put on colors and yea. Good luck!
Pink Waterfall! - When the ortho is putting them on it doesnt hurt but your mouth probably will feel sore after that..it takes time for your mouth to get used to the braces especially your cheeks and your lips. My lips always got stuck in my braces and all my friends made fun of me for that but ya i think that youll eventually get used to them...at first they might be a little painful but after that you will get used to them so it'll be okay..you can always use the wax they give you if you feel any discomfort or just take painkillers if they are really causing you a lot of pain. Hope i helped:)
Fizzle - Yes, and when they're adjusted. The teeth are being pressed to grow into a certain position and the constant pressure is uncomfortable, mostly at each first application/adjustment and less as they shift and the pressure decreases. It's the sort of thing that can be taken care of with over the counter pain relievers until it eases up. You're lucky, though--I remember kids having the old braces before they glued brackets on with adhesive. Each tooth would be wrapped in a foil collar.
wwjd710 - At the beginning, yes. Not RIGHT when you get them on, but after a while your teeth will hurt and maybe your lips, too.
ReplyDeleteAfter a while, you'll get used to them. Then they'll only hurt if they're tightened a lot.
Petals Open To The Moon - yes, but that's only because they are making your teeth move.
ReplyDeleteBeth - Not at all! The only time it hurts a little bit is a few hours after. Good luck!
