My eyes are in general overly dry and sensitive but oh boy nothing compares to being in the same room or even the adjacent room to where raw onions are being chopped. I know most people will get stingy eyes and even get some tears but oh boy mine are like that but x 100! I have to literally press a tissues into my eyeballs (eyelids closed obviously) for 5 minutes or more before they stop stinging watering and I'm able to keep them open. This is stopping me from being able to use onions in any of my cooking, it's not worth the pain lol.
Any idea why my eyes are like this?
Any solutions?
Does anyone else experience it this badly?
Cooked onions are no problem to me.
The Captain Of The Heart - You could try a pair of chemical goggles that cover the entire eyes/facial area.
ReplyDeleteThey are usually available at hardware stores and other places.
Put them ON...BEFORE....you begin an onion cutting expedition.
Just a thought..... :-)
SCHUTZSTAFFELN - Well first, you're not special and this isnt "abnormal" this happens to one in three people. Chewing gum helps. It happens to me too.
ReplyDeletejustsayin - try cutting the onion by the sink with the cold water running and keep your mouth closed the whole time no talking while cutting it , someone told me to do that and it really works for me!
ReplyDeleteLauren - Ι think it's better seeing a doctor in person to answer this kind of questions
