Diabetes And Alcohol?

396545384 I'm 130 pounds and 5'7 and a girl. (if that makes a difference. I've been type one for a year and I'm wondering what alcohol would be best for me to drink. I know I will never drink more than one serving, I'm just curious on how it will affect me. I'm talking specifically about Mike's Hard Lemonade (30 carbs) and Mikes Hard Lemonade Light (6 carbs) I take Humalog insulin, thanks!

  1. Thephrog - I'm no doctor, but I recommend not drinking at all. Alcohol is very bad for diabetics. If you do drink one, drink the light, and very, very slowly, and ALWAYS with food, protein if possible.

  2. Vilen Morius - My uncle was an alcoholic but was forced to stop because he got diabetes (thank god because he probably would've been dead by now otherwise)

So you better be careful, you might just worsen it.

  3. annieeeelle - I'm diabetic (Type 1) and that comment does not make sense.. protein doesn't affect blood sugar. I still drink as I am a teenager but I am not wreckless.. I eat biscuits (for carbs) during the night to avoid hypos and regularly test my blood. As for the Mike's Hard Lemonade I would say take the first one if it includes alcohol because it will make your blood go down afterwards but talk to your dietician, I have never been advised to take sugar free drinks with alcohol.. always full sugar :)

AND YOU CANNOT WORSEN TYPE 1 DIABETES.. ONLY TYPE 2
    be safe, but live!

  4. Cammie - Alcohol LOWERS blood sugar so you need to eat extra carbs when you are drinking.
Never does for the carbs in alcohol. You will bottom out.

most diabetes sites say that a woman can have one drink daily if she wants to.
Men can have two a day -if they want to.

Check your sugar often and never go to sleep after drinking without a high carb snack.

  5. buffalo - Before going to sleep have a small snack. Alcohol lowers glucose levels. I would have at least two..

    Great for the heart.

    Take care
