Is It Illegal To Be Prescribed Quinine Sulphate In The Uk?

396545384 Hi . I've been taking quinine sulphate on prescription for many years due to a forklift accident. now i know its ment for leg cramps and leg pain. I suffer from split attended and nerve damage to the right leg. what i want to know is i have heard so many rumours that the fda (usa) has banned the drug. does that mean its illegal to obtain this drug in the uk or usa?

  1. jackie m - Some websites say it is no longer used in UK but other say it is but if you get it from your doctor on prescription you have nothing to worry about but it is not to be used on long term use and is mainly for malaria and various HIV problems, it can affect your heart and cause erectile dysfunctions.

My dad had malaria in WW2 in the Navy and had to have the quinine sulfate to control those episodes. My husband had polio in the 50s and has a great deal of muscle, bone and nerve damage. He needs the quinine sulfate to control some of the pain and cramping.

Are we going to deny all these types of people any respite for their pain? I think not!! And neither my dad nor my husband want to take the highly addictive pain medications now on the market, nor are these very effective for controlling it, anyway.
