I have a yeast
infection from taking antibiotics for several months. My doctor suggested a few home remedies and I decided to insert acidophilus directly into my vagina. My doctor said this method has been very successful. The acidophilus I bought at my local organic food market is PB 8. It's pretty spiffy seeing as it has 18 billion cultures and 8 different strains of probiotics. From my research it's one of the best. However, the encasing for the capsules are gelatin and I'm pretty sure I'm having an allergic reaction to it. Seeing as gelatin is an animal product, is it safe to use it directly in my vagina? I've currently stopped using it by this method and have decided to take it orally. I've taken this by mouth before and I've never had a reaction. My doctor said this would be a quick fix, but I'm afraid it has seriously back fired. My yeast
infections present themselves VERY mild, and yet, now I'm experiencing extreme tenderness and itching in my labia minora. There is swelling, but no discomfort when I urinate. I'm taking benadryl and that's
helping the itching, but jeez, it hurts!
katrina - There's an applicator that comes with spermicide gel (found near condoms near women's yeast products at store) this applicator is something you can 'fill' up with and insert to vagina. Granted you have to pay the $ for the gel to get applicator...but can re-use by washing etc. I'd suggest getting some plain yogurt and adding an opened capsule of acidophilus to yogurt, mixing well and getting it into that or some other applicator (hmm...maybe empty tampon applicator??) Could put in small plastic bag, cut off corner and squeeze into applicator..(being creative here). I always say where there's a will there's a way. I assume you are taking acidophilus orally as well? I also recommend Olive leaf (usually capsules) as an addition to any yeast issue...no sugar or yeasty foods in diet etc.
