I've had an itchy rash for 5 weeks now & am trying to work out what it is. My Dr said its contact dermititus but that it could be v difficult to discover the cause. I've changed my shower gel, washing powder & stopped using lotions & perfumes for a few weeks now so they must''t be the problem. Now I'm wondering about fabrics - I have a sweatshirt with polyester lining that seems to make me worse & my dressing gown makes me really bad & turns out its 100% polyester.
Does anyone else have this? How common is such an allergy?
All advice welcome!
Depp fan - I am not allergic to it but you sure could be. See my source below.
ReplyDeletekay - Polyester is darn near chemically inert. That's why archivists use Mylar (a form of polyester) to encapsulate paper for long term preservation. You may be reacting to residual detergent, fabric softener or other chemicals retained in the sweatshirt or robe. Try rewashing with no detergent and wearing again.
ReplyDeleteAre these garments making you sweaty? Some types of skin irritations are even more irritated by sweat.
Polyester is also used for the clear plastic disposible water and soda bottles. Are you reacting to those, too?
Anem - Ι think it is better seeing a doctor in person to answer this kind of questions.
