Okay so i need to go have a Diabetes test to see if ive got it but ive heard of the oral Glucose tolerance test and i have to say im worried about that because if it takes horrible i will actually throw it up and thats a promise :/ I was just wondering if anyone knew what it tasted like and how bad it actually was? and tell the truth please thanks
John W - Yes the candy is really bad. Certainly not Godiva chocolates.
ReplyDeleteThey probably won't do an oral glucose tolerance test. They'll just draw some blood for a H1A1C test which gives them an average of the last 30 days. The oral test takes too long to do, they don't want to pay a nursing assistant to watch the clock and take a glucose test every fifteen minutes after you've had some candy.
TheOrange Evil - I've never had an OGTT, but I know the two most common flavors are cola and orange. Some people love it, but a lot of people get sick from having to drink so much sugar quickly. Also, reactive hypoglycemia (blood sugar dropping within a couple hours due to the high sugar load) happens occasionally. From what I've heard, it's often an unpleasant experience.
ReplyDeleteIf you do throw up, the test has to stop, and you'll have to come back another day. So, if that happens, ask your doctor if you can just have an HbA1c done instead. That doesn't require fasting, which is good because you won't be fasting anymore after going through with the OGTT.
JosephKJV - I been tested several times, cause I'm borderline, but the info. they gave me in preparation for the test was not totally correct.
ReplyDeleteI've read that the test calls for 12 hrs prior to the test, not to eat or drink anything, to check for the
efficiency of your pancreas. The 12 hrs are important to have a point of reference in comparison to
normal pancreas, that keeps the sugar in balance.
Nana Lamb - OGTT should be banned forever as highly outdated and horrible.
ReplyDeleteThey only use orange flavored syrup for you to drink, and if you are diabetic it will send you into super sugar high for drinking it. it is not bad tasting if you like drinking syrup.
The GOLD STANDARD for diagnosis is blood draw!!! HbA1c does not require fasting, but other tests in the panel do require fasting.
If you have to do the OGTT you will be called back in for HbA1c and other blood draw tests next week anyway!!
Nikola Bozilovic - First you will check blood sugar levels if you have too much blood sugar level then you will determine the dose to insulin.Of course testing is performed in the laboratory, where would you take out blood. I am diabetic .:))))))) 5 years, and i know all!
ReplyDeleteSam - Yes the candy is quiet bad. but that's fine. try to control your diet and your blood sugar level irrespective whether you have diabetes or no. try using Natvia in your daily diet. visit this website for further details.
