@tooth975: A Clarification...?

396545381 hello,
Tooth975...
I read in one of your answers about reversing bicuspid extractions that "Depending on the cephalometric analysis, it may be possible to undo everything without reopening the extraction sites". Can you please explain this statement? what elements in the cephalometic analysis show that extraction sites don't need to be reopened?

  1. tooth975 - If the measurements on the ceph show that there is enough room to advance the mandible back to its normal physiologic position, then the extraction spaces do not have to be reopened. One that many functional orthodontists use is called the Sassouni analysis and will show graphically if this is possible. However, this is to address a TMJ disorder and if your problem is a dished-in profile then the extraction spaces need to be reopened or the maxillae advanced en masse to restore proper lip support.
