  2. Flower - Yeah, we are too feeble-minded and too uneducated to sort it all out. Many a highly educated and astute person has come away from reading the Medicare book with complete lack of knowledge. The book is not written clearly and disorganized like the whole plan and very complicated and convoluted. However, if one takes the time to investigate this very complex web of choices, there are state advocates for health care who can explain the intricacies of Medicare. You should see a Medicare shrink.

  3. Laikabeta - The medicare plans are very complex and can be difficult to understand. Too many choices and too many questions to ask such as:

    1) Do I select Part A (hospital coverage) + B (medical coverage) + D (prescription drug plan)
    OR
Part C (medicare advantage - similar to a HMO)?

    2) Will my doctor accept the plan I select?
    3) Are the drugs that I am taking, will they be covered? What tier level are the drugs?
    4) Do the medications require a prior authorization or is there a quantity limit per month?
    5) Do I have to pay a monthly premium?

    etc.....

But here are some places where you can get some help on finding and selecting a plan that is appropriate for you:

    1) Check to see if your local pharmacy or pharmacist can help you select a plan (Main advantage of them doing it for you is that they have a list of the drugs that you have been filling for the past year)
    2) If you live close to a pharmacy school, there are outreach programs to seniors (at the school or in the community) provided by pharmacy students (who most likely have been trained) (you must take your medications or list of medications that you are currently taking so that the information can be inputted into the medicare.gov site)
    3) Free website: medicare.gov
    - select the prompt: a) Find health and drug plan b) goes to "Medicare Plan Finder" c) follow prompts etc......

I know it can be so confusing but there is help available. Don't wait until the last minute because ithe open enrollment period will be ending on December 7.
