Mieren - I can't open the picture, but I can still help.
If you're constantly chewing something, your teeth will move faster. I used gum. Don't use bubble gum if you do this. Use a stick of gum since it's smaller and not nearly as sticky. The first few times, pay very close attention to what you're doing. After you get used to it, it's pretty easy to keep away from the braces. When you get your braces tightened and your teeth are in horrible pain, if you chew gum for two or three days straight, your teeth will move more quickly and stop hurting. You won't see them move obviously, but the fact that the pain vanishes means that your teeth have shifted just enough to take the strain off. I can almost hear you saying "liar!" but it's true. My brother and I got braces at the same time, and our teeth were about the same concerning on how much help they needed. I chewed gum and he didn't. His teeth would hurt for weeks after a tightening and only start feeling better right before his next visit. Mine only hurt about two days after each tightening, and my braces were taken off more than a year earlier than his.
And orajel is your best friend. It's on the aisle with the toothpaste. It will numb anything in the mouth it touches.
