Does Anyone Have More Information On Lisinopril Hctz?

396545384 I was taking the medication lisinopril hctz for high blood pressure. i became pregnant and was still on it, not knowing it could cause harm to fetus. my baby was born with hypoplastic lungs and non functioning kidneys. i also was diagnosed with oligohydramnios at 20 weeks. my baby died after 11 days. after reading information on this medication online, i read that all these problems were reported while taking this medication. i did stop taking this medication when i found out that i was pregnant, but i was already 9 weeks. i know that nothing will bring my precious baby back, but i never wish this to happen to another, and the potential harm of this drug needs to be addressed. does anyone know if i can sue the makers of this medication or have any advise for me? thank you for your time.

  1. lauryl4062 - That sucks what happened to you. I doubt very much you would do anything but waste your time if you sue, since the manufacturer is very aware of this side effect and makes it clear on their labeling. If you were likely to get pregnant, you shouldn't have been put on this medication. You probably should have been educated, but if you said "no" when they asked if you had any questions for the pharmacist, then they are not responsible either (because you waived your right to counseling.) The best we can do is try to change health care so that people are more informed about their medications. It's terrible that these things have to happen! :(

  2. John W - It's important to pass all your medication through one Doctor. This becomes a problem for most people as they pick up specialists. If you are a heart patient then that would be your cardiologist. Your doctor should've been able to tell you what to stop taking as soon as the pregnancy was confirmed. Obviously the makers of the drug investigated the situation and printed a warning about it but if you want to sue, you can contact a lawyer however it seems that they did their best to inform your physician and yourself about the problem, it's not like they had ads saying it's safe for pregnant women. If you and your Doctor didn't read the warnings then is it the drug manufacturer's fault? It's obvious that as soon as your medical state changes, all medications should be reviewed, indeed everything including vitamins and wholistic treatments should be reviewed, that should've been obvious as soon as you discovered you were pregnant, why did you continue with the meds without first consulting a physician when you became pregnant? Whose fault was that?
