It won't hurt to give him a little something sweet! Yes, even diabetics can and do like something like dark chocolate once in a while, and not that icky "diabetic friendly" or "sugar free" junk either. If he cannot eat it at all, then he can give it to his mother, and you must say so or he will feel guilt giving it to her.
