  1. Scott - It means the tooth is dying. You need to get it treated if you want to keep that tooth.

  2. Brownie1224 - It does mean that the root of the tooth is dying. But usually with an abcess and then it turning colors it means that its dying. So usually the dentist will just pull the tooth instead of trying to save it.

  3. killerkitty777 - like others said, the tooth is dying. its very important to have asceses treated. please see the dentist asap. we have a lot of vital arteries and veins in our head near our jaw, if an abcess grows too large and bursts, it can cause blood poisoning. not to scare you but this is the risk.

about your tooth: you can ask the dentist to do a root canal if the tooth is strong enough (he will tell you) but one thing few people know about when it comes to having a tooth pulled u should know about and ask your dentist if he can do:

if he cant save the crown part of your tooth, and if it is too weak to have a fake crown put on, see if he can save the root or give you what is called a 'post and core'. when teeth are pulled, the bone there loses its purpose/ function. it has nothing to do now it doesnt hold a tooth so the bone will resorb (dissolve a bit)...to prevent this and give the bone back its function, people get implants (but its expensive). the cheaper option is to cut the crown off, do a root canal and keep the root in the jawbone. you can have a post and core done or get an implant there when you are older. When you lose molars, you lose your 'bite' and teeth will hit each other differently when youchew, this moves teeth. it happened to me, all my front teeth are crooked because my molars have filings and my bite got deeper and shifted it all. hope you learned something today and can go to your dentist informed!! good luck!
