Why Isn't The Claritin Helping My Post Nasal Drip And Cough?

396545383 about a month ago I got a sore throat along with a stuffy and runny nose which only lasted a couple of days. after that the sore throat continued with coughing up mucus, which I assume I coughing up the cold. now for the past three weeks I've been having post nasal drip, and coughing up mucus, with a slight runny nose. I went and bought some Claritin D and took one this morning. I was still snorting, coughing up, and spitting out mucus. it's mostly just clear mucus, sometimes it's light green...but no colors other than that.
should I try the Claritin again, go to the doctor and try to get a prescription, or try a differnt no prescription drug?
the coughing and amount of mucus is not as bad as it originally was, but I still have it.
btw, I know dairy products thicken mucus, but I have very little dairy in my diet anyways. and I drink water throughout the day, I know that's supposed to thin it out.

  1. Tap This - I'd go with probiotics. Acidophilus and Bifidus can be found in yogurt or you can buy concentrated capsules at a health food store. Probiotics are good bacteria that fight against bacterial infections and in the long run, are more effective than antibiotics.

It doesn't sound like you have a virus, but good nutrition, if you're healthy, should enable you to fight off this, whatever it is.

Keep an eye on the color of the mucous. Clear is best, then green, then yellow, then brown and finally blood. Let's hope it doesn't get to that point!
