  1. T-Roll - ACTOS (pioglitazone hydrochloride) is an oral antidiabetic medication.

Pioglitazone [(±)-5-[[4-[2-(5-ethyl-2-pyridinyl) ethoxy] phenyl] methyl]-2,4-] thiazolidinedione monohydrochloride contains one asymmetric carbon, and the compound is synthesized and used as the racemic mixture. The two enantiomers of pioglitazone interconvert in vivo. No differences were found in the pharmacologic activity between the two enantiomers.

That means its used in DIABEETUSS

  4. Benedict Jephcote - ACTOS is used once a day to increase insulin sensitivity amongst type 2 diabetics. It fits into the antidiabetic drug class known as thiazolidinediones.

Together with appropriate exercise and a healthy diet, ACTOS helps to lower blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of diabetes complications.

ACTOS product information states that FDA-reviewed data proves no difference in macrovascular events between 5,000 patients taking ACTOS and those patients not taking ACTOS.

It's worth noting that some studies have warned against ACTOS use: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/news/2011/Jul/warning-issued-about-diabetes-drug-actos-97053129.html
Certain patients, however, should not take ACTOS and will be advised by their doctor or healthcare professional not to do so.

  5. jackie m - They are used with diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes. They are not for patients with type 1 "juvenile" diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. You cannot take them if you have heart disease because they can cause heart failure.

  6. Cecilia - Actos is a prescription medication that can be added to certain diabetes medications like insulin and metformin to help lower the sugar level. But according to http://www.rotlaw.com/actos that Actos is now associated with a long list of side effects. The most serious ones are heart disease and bladder cancer.
