    Mr. Smartypants - It's just a mild abrasive. It raises the pH in the mouth, but I don't think that really has any effect.

    Hawkeyesrule - It simply adheres to the teeth and covers the stain. It may appear whiter rather than yellow, but it will be a grayish white.
