What Are The Disadvantages To One’s Health Associated With An Excessive Amount Of Simple Sugar?

  1. Tabea - Actually, for a diabetic, it's not just a matter of sugar. All carbs turn to sugar in the blood, so eating a slice of wholegrain bread is the same as eating table sugar.

  2. Mr. Smartypants - Our bodies are not designed to handle large amounts of refined sugar. When you eat a candy bar or drink a Coke, you get like 10-15 teaspoons of sugar in your blood all at once. This causes your pancreas to squirt out a lot of insulin, the hormone that triggers your body tissues to 'burn' up this sugar. 20 minutes later, the sugar is gone, but your blood is still full of this insulin, so you feel tired, cranky, hungry. It's a shock to your system!

  3. OwlBear - Mr. Smartypants stated it very eloquently. Consuming large amounts of refined sugar repeatedly is hard on your body and can result in obesity, with all the complications it brings.
