Sarah Beara =) - Hi, I'm 17 too and have braces! To answer your question simply, yes braces hurt, but not all the time. When you first get them, your teeth are going to hurt for 3 or 4 days. It will hurt really bad to bite down, especially. Also when you first get them, you're going to get a lot of sores on your lips and cheeks. That's probably the worse part. The orthodontist will give you wax for it, but I think it's a better idea to let your mouth do what it needs to do to get used to the braces. After about a week or two, your mouth will actually have indentions where the braces cut it. After that, you barely ever get sores. The first time you get them tightened is going to hurt more than when you got them put on. Take tylonal before you go in, that should help a little. They olny hurt for about a day tho. All the other tightenings will just make your mouth a little sore. The only other thing that hurt is rubber bands. If you wear them like you're suppose to, they'll be uncomfortable for about a week then be alright. If you don't, every time you do put them in it'll be uncomfortable and your treatment will take longer. Other than that, you'll probably get sore at random times but it's not too bad.
Sorry this was so long! I hope this was the answer you were looking for. (:
hottie112 - Braces do not hurt. I have them and the worst part to me was spacers and power chains. Other than that they don't hurt.
