A Simple Root Canal Question?

396545381 Why did my dentist give me a temporary filling and tell me to come back next week to "finish" the root canal? (she already removed the nerve and showed it to me.

(aside: she sorta did the whole thing without telling me about it b4 hand, i thought it was just a regular cavity and filling she was going to do...shouldn't she have asked for consent to do it first and let me know it would take a week longer?...its killing me now and i have tests to study for)

  1. Fridays - Usually a root canal is done in 3 stages. In stage 1 the infected pulp and diseased nerve is removed, and a temporary medicated dressing is placed. This opens up the abscess that infected the tooth and allows it to drain.
In stage 2, the roots are filed and shaped into a cone, in preparation for the root filling. The dentist can check during these stages as well if the abscess has drained, and the tooth is ready for filling. During the 3rd visit (though sometimes this is done during the 2nd), the roots and tooth are filled, and sometimes a cap is placed.

Yes she should have informed you that you needed a root canal. However, had she not done this work today, it would have been very possible that you could have lost the tooth, ie having to have it pulled, due to the infection present.

Root canals can be quite painful for the next few days, so do take some paracetamol/acetaminophen, and some ibuprofen. The tooth is held in by a small ligament, which becomes irritated and inflamed during a root canal procedure, so regular pain relief will help you.

  2. Dr. Albert, DDS, (USA) - ROOT CANALS ARE A VERY EASY AND SIMPLE WAY FOR DENTISTS TO RAKE IN THE DOLLARS AND MAKE A FORTUNE. DID YOU KNOW THAT EVERY TOOTH THAT HAD A RC WILL ULTIMATELY NEED EXTRACTION AND ALL THE MONEY FOR THE RC AND CROWN IS LOST? A SECRET DENTISTS WON'T TALK ABOUT.
SHOW ME A RC THAT LASTED 30+ YEARS AND I'LL SELL YOU A BRIDGE IN MANHATTAN (sarcasm). A RC IS ONLY A TEMP. FIX. SEE LINK BEKOW
