I want to find a travel case for my husband to carry his insulin in, but it needs to have a discreet or hidden compartment in it. My husband drives and goes out of town occasionally. It would be better if he could hide his insulin and syringe. Is there some sort of website that sells off the wall things like this.
John W - The best that I have found are the Frio cases. The Frio case itself is an evaporative cooling jacket and they have netted travel cases for them that allows the evaporative cooling to occur. The idea is that the cooling effect can keep your insulin safe in temperatures as high as 100 Fahrenheit without a problem. You should be asking the Doctor for insulin pens instead of the syringes, they're easier to travel with.
ReplyDeleteI remember purchasing from www.insulincases.com before. They had a smaller travel fridge unit which turned out to be quite noisy as it was a Peltier design with a large fan. It was great for syringes and vials but back then the huge Opticlick pen came out and wouldn't fit. Back then the Frios were available on Amazon.
Gary B - WHY? There are THOUSANDS of diabetics who work, drive, play sport, have babies, adn so on EVERY DAY.
ReplyDeleteAny "shame" he might feel is his own doing. There is certainly no stigma attached. he just needs to be discrete about injecting himself -- Don;t do it at the bar at Applebees!
"Full Disclosure" would be a GOOD THING. if he were to get stopped for some reason, and the police found the SYRINGE, he could be unfortunately detained. but also finding the INSULIN kinda tells the whole story, ya know?
I use a travel-toe made especially for carrying your test meter, strips, insulin, needles, alcohol wipes, and things like that. Little zippered bag about twice the size of my wallet. Even comes with one of those "blue ice" inserts to keep the insulin cool. I carry it with me, and either "shoot up" in the car, or excuse my self from the table and go to the men's room if necessary. I sometimes put the bag under the seat.
I bought it at Sam's Club Pharmacy, but it is not marked as to the manufacturer.
But for the life of me I cannot think of any valid reason to HIDE IT.
Nana Lamb - Frio cases, but there is no hidden part to this!!
ReplyDeleteWhy does he want to hide the fact he needs insulin to be anywhere near stable? That is totally dangerous.

blahblahhha - why would he have to hide that?? My husband takes his on the plane and they have never told him anything. Not even questioned it.
