Have Any Cancer Fund Raising Efforts Resulted In Any Cures ?

396545116 FIRST let me state that I support any efforts to find cures for cancer, however, I have never heard of any results after raising and spending BILLIONS of dollars from many sources, yet, I am not aware of any results as a result of spending all the billions of dollars raised.
I Truly hope one day there is a cure for this terrible disease.

  2. Nvrgvup - No, because firstly we need to define cure. The Oxford Dictionary defines it as the method, treating the symptom. ie.drugs. That's where all the millions that well meaning ,caring volunteers work so tirelessly to raise finishes up, with Big Pharma, developing new drugs, patented by them and eventually lobbied to be available for all , via PBS and tax payers money.
What we should be seeking is healing, which the Oxford Dictionary defines as restoring to health, a better way. This can be achieved by lifestyle and dietary changes, addressing stress and trauma, and more. Get back to the simple life we once new, there are only rewarding side effects.

  5. lo_mcg - Thanks to the money that's already been spent on research, 70% of children with cancer are cured of it? 70%!. We'd all rather it was 100% and one day it may be, but 70% is a far cry from 'no cure', no?

And testicular cancer, Hodgkin's disease, and many cases of leukaemia can all be cured in adults with chemotherapy, most skin cancers are cured with surgery, and many cases of thyroid cancer and cancer of the larynx are cured with radiotherapy. And many other types of cancer are also cured if they are found early enough.

Nobody would pretend that there isn't still a long way to go; but the fact is that, though there is no guaranteed cure for any type of cancer, cancer is cured every day on an individual basis

All thanks to the money that's been spent on research.

And there are many thousands of people like me, who are very grateful indeed for that money and that research. Someone diagnosed with my type, grade and stage of cancer as little as 20 years before I was would almost certainly have died. As it is, I have been in complete remission, with no sign of cancer, for 7 years.

So money spent on cancer research gets my vote every time; more of it, I say!
