Does Getting Small Fillings Hurt?

396545381 Ok well i didnt say cavity because its not really a cavity its a small hole my dentist called a defect (btw anyone know what its called? like to read up on it, he didnt give a medical term just called it a defect) and he said when my enamel was forming it didnt form right or something there and made a small hole. he said isn't from not brushing. so it hasnt decayed. so when i get it filled tomorrow will it hurt\take long? by the way i kinda have a little bit of a cold\cough. i've had it for a cough\cold for a week now. now its just coughing and lil stuffy nose i guess. hope to get over it soon. if i take meds for it should i be ok to go tomorrow afternoon?
I really need it done tomorrow though, hard to splain why but I do

  1. NELIA G - No, filling doesn't hurt. If it is very small, you don't even nee a needle, but it depends what surface of your tooth.

However you will most likely get a shot of novacane that will numb the gum and area around the tooth. This can be a pretty intimidating proceedure especially if you haven't gone through it before.

Before giving you the shot the gum is numbed with a topical anethestic (a paste on a Q-tip) once that spot is numbed a hypo dermic needle is used to inject the novacane. You might feel a slight prick and some pressure as the novacane is injected.

Once that is done you won't feel a thing.
