Can Albuterol Inhaler Cause V Tach In A Patient With Chronic Atrial Fibrillation?

396545385 Sorry, My ex went into V Tach after being admitted to the hospital. He is 64 and as chronic A Fib. He couldn't breathe so he took his albuterol rescue inhaler. After being in the hospital and continuing on Albuterol he went in to V Tach. Could Albuterol be a problem?

  1. gangadharan nair - In atrial fibrillation, the electrical impulse of the heart is not regular. The atria contract very quickly and not in a regular pattern. This makes the ventricles beat abnormally, leading to an irregular (and usually fast) pulse. As a result, the heart cannot pump as much blood as the body needs.
Albuterol Inhalation may cause fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat in some patients.

  2. Dr. Sam - Yes albuterol can cause VT in a few patients. You should just take him to a physician and get him evaluated further. Don't worry, there are better alternatives to Albuterol these days. Your physician will give you a suitable alternative.
