My boyfriends family own several cats. They live out of town and when we fly to see them we stay at one of their houses (both have multiple cats). I would prefer to stay in a hotel because my allergies are so severe but my boyfriend thinks this is rude.Anyway, my breathing gets very constricted and people can hear me wheezing from across the room. The difficulty breathing is more severe than bronchitis. I also get very itchy red eyes and break out in itchy swollen raised hives all over my face and arms. Last time we went I used a lot of over the counter antihistamines but nothing seemed to work. Is there a prescription strength anti-allergen that could make long-term exposure more bearable?

ReplyDeleteYou are doing the right thing by staying is a hotel. Yes this is considered rude by some people but under these circumstances it is essential. Let the pieces fall where they do. You have to look after your health.
Yes besides antihistamines there are other treatments. Spray the cats so that they do not shed their dander. This is not practical.
Go through with a desensitization program. This is costly, time consuming, has complications and does not always work. Do you really want to do this to keep others happy?
Shelbyycakes - I also have allergies to cats, but I love them and have them. Have your family take you out to a doctor while you're wheezing, and they'll give you a breathing treatment and an albuterol inhaler prescription.
