  1. B - November will be 2 years for me after 8. After the 3rd day all the nicotine is out of your system and it becomes purely psychological. I chewed gum for a while to curb the cravings. My dad carried licorice around with him.

  2. Michael - Your cravings will stop after a week. And every now and then you will get the urge. Best thing to do when you get the urge is to keep your mind occupied with other things. Maybe go for a workout at the gym.

Also, keep in mind that nicotine is so powerful that even years later after you've quit, and your friend lights up, you think smoking one cigarette won't hurt you, you will be a smoker once again and be buying cigarettes again that same night probably for the next few months. And you will have to quit smoking again. I've learned that one cigarette will hurt me.

  3. Sea Dog - If you are only on day 2 I think you are being very quick of the mark to say you've quit! The first week is the hardest, craving will stick around a few weeks and temptation longer.

  4. Team Earth - I quit this year after twenty nine years of smoking. I have been cigarette free for 6 months and still miss it. But...after the mini stroke I had in April and not being able to speak for several hours "missing" cigarettes is not enough, I am done for good and when the urge hits I chew gum or take a walk, anything to get my mind off of smoking. It is getting easier everyday but I will always be a smoker, just a smoker who will never do it again or die. Good luck and stay strong. See my support group below. They are so helpful.

  5. Kirsten J - You should try electronic cigarettes. No odor or bad smokers breath or smell and is a lot cheaper that smoking regular cigarettes and has non of the carcinogens that are in tobacco. I've been using them for 4 weeks and it's the only way I have been able to get rid of tobacco. I have tried several and Green Smoke is by far the best.

  6. Emil Ben - The first few days is psychological and physical. Psychological = mourning and loss. Physical = dependency on the drug and it's still in your body

The Physical affects usually do not last as long as the psychological effects. The first few months is the hardest, and after that don't be surprised to still see the cravings pop up (this will be more psychological than anything).

Suck on hard candy and chew gum is pretty much the two things you can do and not gain too much weight

Water also is good, sipping on water.

    Good luck
