I had my root canal done about a year ago, everything has been fine up till about a few days ago. I went to the cinema and bought large sweet popcorn, which I fully finished. By the time I got home the tooth started to ache, the pain is bearable but still bad. It doesn't seem to be the whole tooth but just a certain area.
Help!
Siobhan - Obviously seeing your dentist should now be a priority for you. In the mean time, try taking paracetamol/acetominophen (Uk/US) for the pain, and ibuprofen as an anti-inflammatory. Rinsing your mouth out with warm salt water, and applying oil of cloves (if you have it) will also help.
ReplyDeleteI also like Oragel as a dental pain-relieving product. It's an instant local anaesthetic, and works wonders.
UrbanPhotos - You may have to have the tooth extracted. That's the main drawback with root canals; they don't necessarily save the tooth.
ReplyDeleteThe pain may be unrelated to the tooth though. It could be a cavity in a neighboring tooth, or something as minor as jaw muscle strain.
Take Advil and if it still hurts tomorrow see if you can get an emergency dental appointment.
ray_diator - How are we supposed to help?
ReplyDeleteI guess we could state the obvious and say see a dentist if the pain continues.
These are the only teeth that you are going to have so look after them.
Dumdedum - Popcorn and granary bread cause dental issues like mad.
ReplyDeleteWhat ever it is it needs to run past your own dentist when you can get an appointment, may be simple or may be a fracture. Only he can tell you after he has had a look and done and xray.
