Is Lv Diastolic Dysfunction A Transient Event?

396545385 My echo reported normal valves, no chamber hypertrophy and good systolic function. It just says "LV Diastolic Dysfunction" (no level of severity mentioned and I wonder why). I am 53 and very healthy and maintain good diet and weight.

Is Diastolic Dysfunction a transient event that can go away on its own? In fact I had taken pressure medications for 3 months.

  1. Stephen - LV diastolic dysfunction is generally not a transient event. It is chronic and caused by a variety of factors, and the best approach usually is to try work on the contributing factors (such as but not limited to - diet/exercise/certain diseases) in an attempt to limit further stiffening. Unfortunately it is also caused by ageing, which certainly could have been the cause in your case (though "Whether age itself causes stiffening of the ventricles, or whether such stiffening is related to some other medical condition associated with aging, is not yet worked out").

There seems to have been a few treatments which have shown promise in some individuals, but certainly aren't a cure. This would be better discussed with a cardiologist.
