Can I Join Th U.s. Army If I Used To Have Type 2 Diabetes?

396545384 About 3 years ago i had to spend sometime in the hospital because my blood glucose level was too high. I was too overweight. So basically all i had to do was lose weight for it to go away. I no longer have diabetes. I have not been to the hospital since then. Would this incident dq me from joining the military?

  2. SethSpeaks - If your blood sugar is in control without meds they will let you in. Just don't mention it.

PS Don't listen to those who say it can't be cured. I know it can as I have seen it with my own eyes. This 'it only goes into a controlled state' crapola is just because physicians want to keep you giving money. As you already know, it can indeed be completely cured through diet and exercise. It is really unfortunate that people say otherwise.

  3. Skygazer - You can't get rid of diabetes, though you can control it.

If you were hospitalized at one time for it I would say you should probably mention it. It's in your medical records, you can probably get in trouble for lying.

  4. syl c. - Your diabetes is controlled but by no means do you no longer have diabetes. Once you have been diagnosed with diabetes you will have it the rest of your life. It can be controlled by losing weight, eating a healthy diet and exercising. But this is part of your medical history even if you have not been in a hospital since then.

So, the answer is no you cannot join the Army. Don't follow the advice of some here and lie because you can get in trouble on a federal level. Be honest that is the best thing you can do. There are too many circumstances in the military that can affect your blood glucose levels, even if they are controlled at this time.

    Hope this helps.
